Computer Memory: Who Is Smarter, You Or Your Computer?

There are several different types of memory a computer can have. Read only memory, or ROM, is a class of storage media used in computers and other electronic devices. Random access memory, usually known by its acronym, RAM, refers to data storage formats and equipment that allow the stored data to be accessed in any order. In contrast, other types of memory devices, such as magnetic tapes, disks, and drums, can access data on the storage medium only in a predetermined order due to constraints in their mechanical design. Molecular memory stores information in polymers that can store electric charge. Molecular memory might be especially suited for primary storage.

Phishing For Your Identity

Who hasn’t received an email directing them to visit a familiar website where they are being asked to update their personal information? The website needs you to verify or update your passwords, credit card numbers, social security number, or even your bank account number. You recognize the business name as one that you’ve conducted business with in the past. So, you click on the convenient “take me there” link and proceed to provide all the information they have requested. Unfortunately, you find out much later that the website is bogus. It was created with the sole intent to steal your personal information. You, my friend, have just been “phished”.

VCR And DVD Recorder Combo Units

VCR and DVD recorder combo units are very handy and full features devices to own. I´ve lived with just a VCR and I´ve lived with just a DVD player for periods of time. I have to say I need both! When DVD players first came out I tried to make the switch a complete and lasting one, throwing out many of my old VHS movies and replacing them with DVDs instead.

Future Looks Bright For The Wireless Internet

The honeymoon is officially over with the wireless internet and the consumer. Anything smaller, more powerful and shiny gets the wonder working and the wallet out. Although WiFi technology was created as early as 1991, it hasn’t become widely available to the average consumer until the last decade. The most attractive aspect about the wireless internet was the cost – or rather, the lack thereof. This made growth of WiFi more than wireless internet providers or engineers could handle.

Parental Peace of Mind

The advent of the Internet, in some respects, made the job of parenting a little harder. We want our children to experience the vast wealth of knowledge available on the Internet and communicate with their friends online (frees up the telephone). Unfortunately, it also potential exposes our children to inappropriate material, obscene pop-up ads, and even sexual predators. In fact, research indicates that 1 in 5 children aged 10 to 17 have received a sexual solicitation over the Internet. This is definitely not something any parent wants to hear, but is forced to face.

When Using Wi-Fi, Don’t Smell Good To A Sniffer

If you have a laptop, you are probably using Wi-Fi. Wireless fidelity networks beam out your data into the air instead of having to be plugged in. In order to get on a Wi-Fi network and take advantage of the speed, mobility and low cost, you need your laptop, a Wi-Fi adapter and a Wi-Fi hotspot. There are over 120,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in public places like airports, hotels and restaurants. There also Wi-Fi hotspots you can connect to for your home or personal office use. Cities like Philadelphia are trying to make the entire city into a huge Wi-Fi hotspot.

Personal Computer Memory Upgrades

Most personal computers show a visible improvement in performance if you upgrade or add memory to bring the total between 64MB and 128MB. Actually, Windows XP recommends 128MB as a minimum amount of memory. For running most of today´s software and operating systems, it´s very reasonable to setup your computer with at least 512MB of memory.
